Why I have chosen to be a “Virtual Lawyer”? By Randal Buckley

It was not until I started working at my first law firm as a family solicitor that I soon realised that they were very strange places indeed. You see, apart from the formality of the legal profession, many solicitors are not happy with their lot, not because of clients but because they have to work in traditional firms.

The Law House is different and this is what attracted me to their way of working. It deals with family law, Wills and probate matters.  The Law House puts the client solicitor relationship before billing. Of course they still bill but client service levels are much more important. This allows a client’s matter to move forward naturally and most of all clients know exactly what they are being billed for. We don’t have expensive offices; we often work from home and don’t just do 9-5. Clients really appreciate our flexible approach because we will see them at home, work or a great location close to where they work/live. There is no compromise on quality or confidentiality. One thing I really like is that I don’t have a personal secretary. Some solicitors could not survive without one believing that typing their own letters is “beneath them”; not so The Law House. Being “hands on” and typing our own letters means we are always up to date on what is happening with your matter. Its one overhead we don’t pass on to our clients.

If you have ever walked into a traditional law firm, you will be amazed at the amount of paper that each solicitor has to deal with every day; we have none. The Law House is paperless. We have the technology and make good use of it. You never have to ask for a copy of a letter because you it is kept electronically and is accessible to us by just logging into our system.  Being paperless also means that I am entirely mobile; your file is wherever I am. I do not travel to work every day, I can and do go to see my clients and I am very pleased to do so. The Law House solicitors are also very creative particularly in circumstances where a meeting in person is not possible or convenient. Meetings by video-link, on Skype or FaceTime, are all great alternatives to finding your way to a solicitor’s office.

In the first few weeks of working with The Law House I was impressed at how different, and successful, this way of working is and how much clients like it. I enjoy my work more. I am confident that as a “Virtual Lawyer” I offer clients a better experience than they would have received at a more traditional law firm.
